Survey Notes — Field Report

Springbank is one of the last distilleries in Scotland to carry out the full production process on a single site — from malting the barley to bottling the finished whisky. Situated on the Kintyre peninsula, at the far end of a narrow strip of land between two seas, Campbeltown was once home to over thirty distilleries. Today, Springbank is one of just three survivors.

The distillery produces three distinct styles of single malt under one roof: Springbank (lightly peated, 2½ times distilled), Longrow (heavily peated, double distilled), and Hazelburn (unpeated, triple distilled). This versatility makes it one of the most compelling sources for independent bottlers.

Our selections from Springbank have consistently shown the distillery's maritime character — a salinity and coastal minerality that speaks directly of place. The dunnage warehouses sit mere metres from the harbour, and the sea air permeates every cask. It is whisky that tastes, unmistakably, of where it was made.
